Bram Stoker Estate

Contact the Bram Stoker Estate

We welcome enquiries from researchers, publishers, broadcasters, museums, creative partners, fans and general readers. We’d especially like to hear about corrections, new historical information and new material. About the Estate explains our purpose, and Archives helps researchers find original material. If we have used your material without the right acknowledgement, please tell us. It happens to us too, and we will put it right.

Skip to the form. We aim to reply within 10 days. Permissions and partnership enquiries can take longer.

Research and archives

Where can I find Bram’s papers?
Start with Archives, which lists the libraries and collections that hold his letters, manuscripts and other material. Please ask the holding institution about access and copies. The Estate has little capacity to help with research itself. For wider guides, see Research and resources.
I think I have something that belonged to Bram. What should I do?
Please describe it first, with photographs if you can, and tell us how it came to you. Please don’t post originals or send large files. We can’t value or authenticate items, but we’d like to hear about them. For a valuation, try a specialist dealer or auction house. Tell us about it.
Can I send a correction or new historical information?
Yes. Tell us which page or statement you mean, and give the source, date, archive reference or other evidence if you can. Please keep what is documented separate from your own interpretation. Send a correction.

Images and using Bram’s work

How do I request an image or reproduction?
Tell us which portrait, letter, manuscript or object you need, where you saw it, how you plan to use it and your deadline. Permission and credit depend on the item and the collection that holds it. A picture on this website is not automatically free to reuse. See Rights and credits, then make a request.
Can I quote from or reuse Bram’s text?
Bram’s published original works are generally available to use, but unpublished material and particular versions require separate consideration. Modern editions, translations, annotations and adaptations may carry separate rights. See Using Bram’s work for the difference between the original works, later editions and adaptations, images, trade marks, and uses that suggest an Estate connection. If your question is about a particular item or project, give us the details in the form below.

Events and listings

Can I submit an event?
Yes. Use Submit an event on the Events page. Read What we list first, then send us the event details, a photograph, a caption and confirmation that you have permission to use the image. Listing is free, and the Estate approves every listing before it appears.
Does a listing mean the Estate endorses it?
No. An event listing, a book in the bibliography or a venue is information for visitors. It doesn’t mean the Estate organises, sponsors, endorses or agrees with it. We give very few official endorsements to publications, films, programmes, events or exhibitions.
Can you send a speaker to my event?
Yes, we try to accommodate speaking invitations. Tell us the date, venue, audience and format, and what you’d like covered. Send a speaker request.

Partnerships, media and teaching

What should a partnership enquiry include?
Describe the project, its audience, the territory, the timetable and the kind of Estate involvement you have in mind. For an exhibition or loan, tell us the proposed venue and dates and any material you’d like to discuss. Because Bram’s work is in the public domain, the Estate does not pay to promote it. See Collaborations, then use the form for exhibitions or loans or a creative collaboration.
I’m a journalist or producer. What should I send?
Start with Press and media. Then tell us what you’re making, your deadline and what you need: an interview, an image, a fact check or background. We’ll tell you what we can help with. Contact us for press or media.
I want to adapt, film or stage Dracula. Do I need permission?
The novel is in the public domain, so you don’t need permission to adapt the original text. Some names, trade marks and modern adaptations carry separate rights, and your project should not suggest a connection with the Estate unless one exists. See Using Bram’s work, and tell us about the project if you’d like to discuss it.
I’m a teacher. Is there material I can use?
Yes. See Studying Dracula and Reading Dracula for classroom plans, set-text information and activities, and the bibliography for further reading. Do also let us know what additional material you would find helpful.

The Estate and the family

Are you related to Bram, and can I contact the family?

We respect the privacy of living family members and do not share their personal or contact details. For more about our work, see The Estate and the family. For family-history questions, please use the contact form.
How will you use my details?
