After his Sackville Street enquiry in Chapter 20, a tired and hungry Jonathan takes tea at the Aërated Bread Company before returning to Purfleet.

This small pause brings the investigation back to everyday London: directories, offices, refreshments and a train home. It is a good point to rest before the Theatreland section.

Gill Davies’s map places an ABC café near Piccadilly Circus. The novel itself names the chain without identifying the branch. The pin is our suggested reading and refreshment area, not a claim that a particular doorway was Harker’s café.
